My First Technology Nugget

This week I learned how to use rules to sort emails in my inbox into separate folders, decluttering my main inbox. This is a real time saver.  I really liked the ability to move emails dealing with college events into a separate and move those dealing with coursework into others.  Using this function, I can focus on the class/coursework emails and review college events at my leisure versus scanning through all the emails in my main inbox an possibly missing an important class/coursework announcement or assignment notification.

This Tech nugget = working smarter and saving time!

  3. Hi DonSmilo, I agree that working with decluttered mail box is frustrating. Its good that IS101, has covered these aspects of handling the mail box and helping the students to get organized.

  4. While I do like the idea of having separate folders and implying rules, I don't like the fact that I just can't open my main inbox and see everything from there quickly. Having to individually click on folders to see what new emails I've received is a little cumbersome.

  5. Before taking this class, I never bothered sorting all of my emails, and it left me with thousands of emails inside my Inbox folder. It was truly an ugly sight. So I'm glad you appreciate the function of sorting incoming emails into designated folders as much as I do!

  6. Hey Don, good to see that you've been learning new skills and techniques. Sometimes, in certain classes, I find it hard to apply things I learn in class to my personal life. So, with this class, it's good to see that you were at least able to apply one thing.

  7. I really admire your proactive approach and how you manage your time, especially dedicating Saturdays to IS101. It shows real commitment! The way you engage with the class . It's clear you understand digital media compression well.

  8. Hey Don, thank you for sharing. I remember thinking it was cool that we could have emails sent to certain folders but today I learned that it is important that we remember the conditions that we apply to these rules. I thought I had not received a certain email from Dr. Wu because it did not go in my general inbox. When I asked about it, I was made aware that the email had gone to a certain folder which I DID NOT check prior to asking because of the rules that were set. It was slightly embarrassing but also glad that the rule worked how it was supposed to.

  9. While reading your blog post is made me realize how much time I used to waste sorting through emails. Kind of like you said, I would always miss those 1 or 2 emails of class work that I really needed and would cost myself a lot of time.

  10. Hi Jon! Learning how to organize one's email is such a beneficial skill to have. I, and I would assume most, get so many emails in a single day, so it is nice to have them organized well.

  11. Hey Don, I completely agree with you about the efficiency and time saving perks of email organization. If only I had known about this sooner, right? Maybe I could have saved some time scanning my inboxes! 😄
