Don Smilo: The Journey Begins

Creating this blog has been an exercise in patience and persistence, but it is up and running and I am able to "blog.".  This blog is a requirement for a college course I am taking at the College of Southern Nevada, IS101, and is my first ever foray into the "blogsphere."

So, over the next few months, as I learn and adopt this new technology in class, I'll use this space to document my journey from an Ice Age Neanderthal to a functioning 21st Century citizen.

  1. Hello Don Smilo! It is nice to know your all up and running for blogging. I personally have done blogging before for assignments back in high school however this experience is completely different. I look forward on seeing how much your journey changes through out the class. Just an add in I like your metaphor you used.

  2. Patience and persistence indeed!

From Ice Age Neanderthal or a functioning 21st Century citizen, it will be quite a journey ^_^

Welcome to the 'blogsphere' and IS101-3002, Spring 2024 :-)

  3. Don, I could not help but laugh at your Neanderthal to 21st Century citizen comment! That is pretty much how I felt day one of IS101. Although I do have experience with a lot of the lessons we have learned so far, I am still learning quite a bit of new information and skills. I am not sure if or when I will use a lot of these lessons and skills, but learning something new never hurt anyone, right?

  4. This is also my first time blogging, so I'm interested on how this journey will go and if I will use this in the future. But it will be nice for us to look back onto our first blogs after the end of this term! I notice that the process of setting up was quite the struggle, so I'd be happy to help you if I can!

  5. Congratulations on launching your blog and stepping into the blogosphere! It's fascinating to see how you're embracing this new challenge as part of your IS101 course at the College of Southern Nevada. Your journey from an "Ice Age Neanderthal" to a "functioning 21st Century citizen" is not only a testament to your determination but also an inspiring reflection for anyone hesitant to dive into the digital world. Looking forward to following your progress and learning alongside you. Keep the posts coming!

  6. I too am working to become a functioning 21st Century citizen. As much as I would like to delve in a cave and hunt for my food, I must pay taxes and contribute to society!

  7. Hi Don, you have a unique name. Good luck with this semester; I'm sure you'll get used to it. The first assignments do take a bit to do, but the more you get used to it, the easier it becomes to finish.

  9. That's a funny way to phrase learning in this class. I love the analogy and I can relate to it from my own perspective, I had never paid attention in my CS class in High School and now it feels like I'm learning this all again from day one. One day I can't wait to see this class look like "2+2=" to me and excel with almost ease to get me to my goal, I wish you good luck.

  10. Hi Don Smilo. I love the way you worded this post. Even though it is similar to what most of us have written for our first blog post, you managed to find a way to be different and make it entertaining to read. I wish you the best of luck, I look forward to seeing your blog journey!
